Is pre-made cookie dough homemade?

This is something I keep debating with others about.

I used to have a friend that would always tell me that she baked homemade cookies. One day when I visited her, I saw the premade cookies setting on her counter. I asked if these were her homemade cookies and she said yes.I don’t know about you, but I tend to disagree here. I do believe that premade cookie dough is very good, and I use it often. I do not believe that it is homemade though. When I bake these cookies, I never consider that these are homemade. I always consider them store bought dough and therefore they are not homemade.

When I go to large supermarkets or food service stores, I often buy a large box of frozen chocolate chip cookie dough pieces. The last box I purchased had 120 pieces of cookie dough in it. I make a pan of 12 cookies every couple of days, and my kids really like them. I like them too, and they are great for bringing to parties and things like that. They taste great and they look good, but homemade? No, I don’t think so.

When I consider homemade cookies, I think of flour, sugar and salt. I also think of mixing the cookie dough, cracking the eggs and setting pieces of dough on the pan. I also think of the mess it involves. It leaves pans, bowls and utensils to wash, but I would never trade this for anything. In my opinion, homemade cookies are the best types of cookies you can have.
