The only thing I do not like about cooking from recipes is when food manufacturers change the size of products or packaging. It can make "tried and true" recipes a little more difficult. However, with a few tiny adjustments, this chocolate pie is still relatively simple to make. One benefit is it is not likely you will ever find anyone who does not like it. A second benefit is it only takes three ingredients. You can prepare it within a few minutes.
The ingredients:
1 ready-made graham cracker pie crust (I prefer the Oreo flavor; you can use your favorite)
1 1/2 large Symphony chocolate bars (the original recipe calls for plain Hershey bars, but I've found Symphony bars are smoother when they melt. If you like chunks in your pie filling, you can either use plain Hershey bars, or the Symphony bars with toffee pieces).
a little less than 1 large size original Cool Whip
How to make it:
Place the thawed Cool Whip in a large bowl.
Using a double-boiler, heat the chocolate on low to medium-low heat, mixing carefully until completely melted.
Pour the melted chocolate into the Cool Whip, and rapidly mix the two ingredients together.
Pour the mixture into the pie crust. Refrigerate overnight.
Two additional tips:
Do not mix the ingredients in the pan you used to melt the chocolate-- the heat will cause the Cool Whip to become thin.
Do not try to speed up the process by putting the pie in the freezer.
I have never known anyone who did not love this pie. It can be a new addition to your holiday table.
